Friday Favorites 5.31.13

I really didn't want my first "real" post in two months to be a collection of crap I found on the Internet, but between graduation parties, going away parties, lady dates with my best friend, Zack getting home from tour, studying and work, I didn't have time to go out and shoot photos for the posts I had planned. So alas, those will have to wait another week (or so) it seems.

Also, I've started to revamp the look of my blog, as you can see. I won't pretend I have any design experience and I don't think I've ever touched Photoshop in my life, but I think the finished parts look pretty decent considering I did everything using the basic version of Picmonkey with the help of some HTML tutorials. I still have a long way to go, but I got burned out working on it last night and gave up. Eventually I will not be a cheapskate and hire someone to design things for me, but for now, this will work.

Enough of that, I digress, here's some things I've been digging lately.

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on this babe. His name is Ricki Hall, and beyond that I really don't know anything about him other than he's (extremely) nice to look at. Ohgeeze.

In the summer I pretty much wear dresses and combat boots exclusively, and I feel like if there was ever a dress that would look perfect when paired with some Doc Martens, it's this one from Sourpuss Clothing.

This iPhone case from Society6 is incredible and I've been debating on if it's worth $35 for weeks. I kinda sorta think it might be.
This hearse makeup bag from Dysfunctional Doll  has been sitting in my Amazon wishlist for months. I should probably get around to ordering it finally as a back-to-school present for myself from myself, or something.

CocoPPa is a nifty little iPhone app I discovered this week that allows you to set up custom icons for your home screen -- no jail breaking required! They have thousands of icons to choose from for pretty much any app you can imagine, and this is a picture of how I redid my screen. Also, for you creative types, you can design your own custom icons and upload them to the app. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to swap out the icons for my phone and text messages, so if anyone knows how to do this, let me know!

My sweet little Lydia is due to molt any day now, and based on the fact she almost doubled in size during her last cycle, I'm anticipating her outgrowing her current enclosure this time around. Fun fact: tarantulas can easily claw and chew their way through mesh screens and lift lids that weigh far more than they do, which really sucks and makes finding escape-proof terrariums difficult. I stumbled across these incredible enclosures from Jamie's Tarantulas that are built with tarantulas' Houdini-esque tendencies in mind, and I'm stoked to put in an order for a setup of my own. I'm sure Lydia will love having more space to roam around, and I'll be able to pick up a new eight-legged baby to house in my old one. Win!

If you've seen "The Human Centipede," I'm sure you can imagine how equally awesome and disgusting it would be to have this pop-art shadow box by PopsicArt hanging on your wall.

Oh Vincent Price, how I love thee. This handsome fellow's would-be 102nd birthday was on the 27th, and ordering this fabulous shirt from Freak Show Clothing would be the perfect way to commemorate the occasion.

Poshmark is another cool app I recently stumbled across, and I'm in love! It's basically like Instagram, but for selling clothes and accessories. You can upload photos of items you want to sell, or browse thousands of other women's closets to see what they have for sale. When someone buys something from you, Poshmark sends you the shipping tag to print and the money is credited to your account to withdraw at any time -- or spend on the site. If you join, my username is abracadaver and the first 10 people to use the referral code of HRCYW, will get a $5 credit to spend! Huzzah! Let's shop each other's closets!

Kevin Eslinger is a Colorado-based artist I've recently discovered, and I'm currently pining over prints of some of his paintings. I'm planning to do a post showcasing his work, but in the meantime, you should totally check out his portfolio.

Holy shit! Did you know Stephen King wrote a sequel to "The Shining?" Because he did, and it's scheduled to be released this September! The basic synopsis that's floating around the Internet sounds pretty intriguing, and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy this fall.

Happy weekend!

Help, I'm Alive

Dang, I've been a lazy blogger. It appears I've neglected to update or post anything in over two months, and while I could blame it on being busy and I'd be telling the truth, really I just haven't felt like it.

Some things I've spent the last two months doing include:
  • Studying for my college entrance exams -- Holy biology, Batman
  • Getting my wisdom teeth removed
  • Having what I'm 99.9% sure was a drop seizure while at a Marina & the Diamonds concert
  • Shopping anthologies and trying to convince one to buy a short horror story I wrote
  • Watching copious amounts of Lord of the Rings
  • Playing copious amounts of Skyrim
  • Attempting to come up with a better design for this blog and failing miserably at it -- Anyone want to do it for me? I'll pay you.
  • Spending 12+ hours per day writing several websites and working on other miscellaneous gigs for clients -- Who needs free time or sleep?
  • Browsing for an apartment close to school so I don't have to commute 50 miles back and forth every day
  • Counting down the days until I get to see Marilyn Manson live and in the latex and black lipstick-covered flesh -- two weeks now!
  • Seeing my boyfriend and his band, Ashtree, off on two cross-country tours
  • Gearing up to help my friends at Super 8bit run their booth at Denver Comic Con -- if you're in the area, come say hi!
  • Procrastinating getting a haircut
  • Finagling my mother into giving me her old bulletproof vest and gas mask so I can start dressing like post-apocalyptic 50 Cent on the regular
  • Wishing I had the ability to turn myself into Alice Glass on command
And that's about it. I'm also in desperate need of catching up on all of the blogs I follow, so some of you best prepare yourselves for some major comment spam on my end as I dig through the past two months of your archives.

In the event you'd like to keep up with me through a platform I'm a bit more active on, you can catch me on Tumblr or Instagram -- I update both of those pretty much daily.

I'll be back soon with new posts, I promise :) Hope all is well for all of you.

Stay creepy.
