Mermaids, Skulls and Anchors

Dress: Hot Topic // Cardigan: Thrifted // Shoes: Converse // Glasses: Thrifted
Ahoy! Yesterday I attended orientation for school, and I wore this super rad dress I picked up when I was in Georgia. Hot Topic isn't normally my cup of tea, but they were having a sweet Buy One, Get One sale when Courtney and I stopped by the mall and I couldn't resist. The print is absolutely fantastic and I'm pretty much in love with the neckline. Unfortunately, it was super windy yesterday afternoon so I couldn't get any pictures of it sans cardigan. Boo.

During orientation, I got to tour the campus where I'll be spending two nights a week and learn about all of the different services they offer students. I also got to meet with an adviser to figure out which classes I should register for this fall. My school requires you to complete all of your general studies courses before applying separately for the mortuary program, so it was just a matter of deciding which sequence would be best for me as a student working full-time. I decided to get math out of the way and take that this semester, and the adviser pointed out tons of resources the school has to help make sure I pass despite my long history of being really, really terrible at math. I'll be taking that on campus and working with a tutor all semester. I'll also be taking my English Composition and Legal Environment of Business prerequisites this fall, but I'm doing those two online so I can make my studies happen around my work schedule. I wish I could take everything on campus, but it really just isn't feasible right now with my school being nearly an hour from where I live and night classes being my only option.

It's kind of funny how fast everything is coming together now after years of waiting. All I have left to do is pick up my student ID and order my books before August. From school to moving, there are so many transitions and exciting things for me to look forward to in the next few months, and it's a bit crazy to think that my life at the end of this year is going to look almost nothing like my life right now. It's crazy. It's scary. It's exciting. And I'm ready.

For real though, isn't this print the best?

  1. I love that print, Ive been pleasantly surprised also by another blogger who shops a lot at Hot Topic and they apparently do have a good selection of dresses! Who would have known, not me …. I haven't been in there since high school and shopping for band tees. Congrats on school! I graduated in December and am excited to get back at it this fall. I also think its so cool that you want to be a mortician! Im sure its not for everyone but its so cool to know someone in real life (kinda ….. in blog life?) that is doing such a unique career!

    1. I was probably 18 or 19 the last time I set foot in Hot Topic before this, so it was pretty rad to score such a sweet dress after assuming I wouldn't find anything! Thank you so much for your kind words about my schooling. My family is less than thrilled with my decision so it's nice to know I have friends (and strangers!) supporting me. My boyfriend's mom graduated from the same program I'll be attending, and eventually I'd love to open my own funeral home with her. Thanks again for stopping by! I love your blog and am actually on my way to mosey over there now to check out your latest post :)

  2. The dress is amazing! I love the mermaids on it! :)
